Mailbag question: Hopson vs. Tucker
Keep hearing that Coach Hopson has the chance to take the defensive coordinator job at Michigan what is he waiting on? Seems like a long time to decide to take it or not? Do you think if he turns it down that, he goes elsewhere or sticks around as a position coach?
Also heard that Mel Tucker former Ohio State and Browns coach would be interested in it so my question is which one do you like better?

Thanks for the question.
First off, not sure both are contenders for the job. Both Hopson and Tucker have impressive resumes. Strictly based on experience, Coach Tucker probably has a slightly better resume because of his time in the NFL.
Both share an "even-front" background. Both are aggressive, high-energy type personalities. Both have reputations as excellent recruiters.
Although we like the fact that Coach Tucker has a background in Ohio, and has been very successful recruiting there.
Our biggest concern with Coach Hopson was the dismal play of Michigan's linebackers under his tutelage. Though we'd like to cut Coach Hopson some slack for this, and give him a chance to recruit his own players, this does give us some pause for thought.
Our concern with Coach Tucker is the reports we keep hearing that he wants to be a head coach. We think it is important that Michigan have some stability at defensive coordinator for a few years and hope the next DC would be so committed.
