Michigan Football Tidbits: Position Group -- Cornerbacks:

Michigan Football Tidbits: Position Group -- Cornerbacks:

While our depth at Cornerback has been upgraded substantially in 2009 most top college teams like to have about, 7-8 players who can contribute mainly due to injury possibilities and the influences of spread or teams using multiple wide receiver sets.

Because of this number, Michigan still needs to emphasize Cornerback as a position of need in 2010 class.

Warren: Despite a very disappointing 2008 Warren remains one of Michigan's top talents on defense. Warren needs to improve in every area with his work ethic, his overall fundamentals, but probably more important his overall approach to football to show others some leadership skills.

Early on this off-season Warren is being pushed hard by Barwis and he seems to be responding. Warren's success in 2009 will not only be measured by his personnel improvement, but his ability to show leadership and mentor the younger cornerbacks.

Boo Boo: A very talented, tough, intense young kid who has one major issue and that is fundamentals. That really can be attributed to lack of playing time against top wide receivers. Much like Warren he feels much more comfortable playing man than zone (like most young players he has a tendency to over think when playing zone.)

Expectations are high that he will make big strides in this off-season and this is his first real organized off-season. Going into spring Boo Boo is obviously the favorite to play opposite Warren, but needs to show some consistency this spring to make that solid.

Woolfolk: People count him out and going into spring probably not the favorite to win a starting position. Woolfolk has shown signs of being very productive when given the opportunity to play and a year ago felt he was not given a fair shot since in most practices he was outplaying starters.

He is our fastest cornerback who needed to gain strength and now physically looks ready to push the favorites. Coach Robinson offers an opportunity to make an impression on him and watching his improvement on special teams a year ago Woolfolk could be one of those sleepers that could make a major move this spring.

Floyd: The personality of the group an upbeat type of kid who seems to enjoy the competition. Hard to describe Floyd except that he just may be one of those kids who just plays.

Maybe not the fastest or most talented, but mentally tougher than the others and therefore will be a factor in 2009. One thing he seems to have the ability to do is tackle someone and might be the more physical of the cornerback group.

Would be a perfect candidate for a nickel type of player, but again want to see how he does in spring and what scheme Coach Robinson plays.
