Michigan Hockey Tidbits: It's official ... Big House Hockey

Michigan Hockey Tidbits:

It's now official: Michigan Hockey will host a game in the "Big House" in 2010. Michigan State has committed to playing in the game against Michigan. The date is set for December 11, 2010.

Michigan State will play a two game series with Michigan that weekend. On Friday night, December 10, 2010, both teams will square off at Yost Ice Arena. Then on Saturday, the two teams will square off in Michigan Stadium for the battle in the Big House. (Sunday, December 12, 2010 will be held for a back-up weather date, just in case of warm temperatures or bad weather.)

Will it be called "The Cold War II"? In 2001, Michigan State held "The Cold War" and drew 74,544 fans at Spartan Stadium. The game ended in a 3-3 tie.

Michigan is also slated to play Wisconsin in the 2009-2010 hockey season on February 6, 2010 at Camp Randall Stadium which has a capacity of 80,321.

The CCHA still has to approve playing the game outdoors, and for it to be at the Big House, but you have to believe this is a no-brainer, especially considering the exposure it will receive, not only locally, but nationally. I wouldn't be surprised if the game was televised, at least on the Big Ten Network. With the possibility of a new outdoor attendance record being set, you'd have to think that one of the major networks would broadcast it as well.

The Big House renovations are sheduled to be completed for the start of the 2010 football season with a capacity of 108,000. Go Blue!
