Mailbag question: In regards to your article about Paulus

First off, I love the blog. First site I check every day!

Second, I am 50-50 on the Paulus for a year option at quarterback. I would rather develop the young quarterbacks that are going to be here (Tate and Denard) but at the same time, I am sure we could use some quarterback depth this year. If that’s how it plays out, great. However, if it is a one-year tryout for a very rusty Paulus to try to get into the NFL, I don't see it as a good move. Also, am worried about the impact on chemistry. (Finally, I hate the Dukies, but I can live with that, if it is the right move for M football.)

Please share your thoughts and insight...

Thanks for the question.

Well first off this is a moot point since he is no longer an option for Michigan. But hey, spring ball is over, so it's a slow news day.

If Paulus understands his role and if he could have helped Michigan win football games we see no harm in him coming to Michigan.

The key with us is what is that defined role, and is he willing to play that role. As a rent a player, we see no scholarship harm, and no long-term negative effect on Michigan’s ability to attract top-flight quarterbacks in the future.
