Mailbag question: Same plays every week?

Mailbag question: Same plays every week?

GBMW,

Does it seem like we are running the same plays over and over again?

No wonder why teams figure us out and we cannot score in the second half!

How can this offense be that improved from last year when they only scored 17 points while the defense scored 7 points and also gave the offense several opportunities to score more, but didn't?

Thanks,
Ken D.

Thanks for the question.

Three of the top offensive coaches, Coach Frey, Coach Magee, and Coach Rod himself have all stated the same thing.

The Michigan offense consists of nine running plays and two of those are only used if necessary.

The philosophy is that it is imperative that the offense be this simple to allow for superior execution and to allow the offense to play fast.

It is their philosophy that playing fast and superior execution trumps a more complex, diversified offense.

We think the offense is improved over last season, but not nearly as much as others seem to think.
