Austin White: 2010 Michigan Wolverine -- Running Back -- Signing Day Recap
Posted at 4:00pm -- 2/17/2010
Austin White: 2010 Michigan Wolverine
Height: 6'0
Weight: 186 lbs.
Position: Running Back
High School: Livonia Stevenson (Michigan)
Head Coach: Tim Gabel
Recruiter: Coach Fred Jackson
Class: 2010 Michigan Wolverine Recruiting Class (Enrolled)
Overview:
Austin is a very versatile athlete with good size and the ability to play running back, wide receiver, or slot receiver at Michigan.
Strengths:
Austin has exceptionally quick feet and very good lateral movement skills. He squares up to the line of scrimmage well and hits a hole in a hurry. Austin shows good balance and the smooth hips to bounce outside. As a big bonus, Austin has excellent hands as well, a trait that could lead to early playing time catching swings out of the backfield.
Needs work:
Austin does not run as physically as we would like and does not break many tackles. He tends to run a bit upright and could use added weight and strength.
Austin reminds GBMW of this former Michigan Wolverine:
Austin is a combination of C. Perry and T. Biakabutuka. He has the same shoulder square, quick to the hole style that made Perry good. Also, Austin shows Biakabutuka-like quickness and feet.
Red-shirt or play his freshman year:
likely to play in 2010.
Where do they rank him:
ESPN: 3-Star .. #77 at position.
Rivals: 3-Star .. #10 at position.
Scout: 4-Star .. #15 at position.
Final Thoughts:
We believe Austin was one of the better running back prospects in the state of Michigan. He is not a big guy, but shows good vision, good feet, and more than adequate speed. Austin seems to really hit the hole hard and goes north/south in a hurry. He is a very good overall athlete who played several other sports in high school.
