Will Hagerup: 2010 Michigan Wolverine -- Punter -- Signing Day Recap
Posted at 4:00pm -- 2/20/2010
Will Hagerup: 2010 Michigan Wolverine
Height: 6'4
Weight: 215 lbs.
Position: Punter
High School: Whitefish Bay (Wisconsin)
Head Coach: Tim Tietjen
Recruiter: Coach Bruce Tall
Class: 2010 Michigan Wolverine Recruiting Class (Signed)
Overview:
Will is a big, strong player who is a solid overall athlete. Not only does Will punt, but he can also handle kicking duties and even played tight end. His kick-offs make it into the end zone, but remember high school kick-off's are from the forty yard line.
Strengths:
Will has the perfect build for a punter. His punts show excellent hang time. He also does a nice job on pooch punts. GBMW would not be surprised to see Will handle punting and kick-off duties at Michigan.
Needs work:
Will needs to get his punts off a tad quicker. Film shows some punts almost getting blocked. At the college level this is a must.
Will reminds GBMW of this former Michigan Wolverine:
Monte Robbins.
Red-shirt or play his freshman year:
If he wins the job he will play and not red-shirt.
Where do they rank him:
ESPN: 4-Star .. #3 at position.
Rivals: 3-Star .. #3 at position.
Scout: 3-Star .. #3 at position.
Final Thoughts:
Punters are tough but GBMW will try and give an evaluation of Hagerup. Evaluations are tough because of limited film and the fact that most times the eventual success of punters is tough to predict because most must learn to kick quicker at the college level. Will, like other beginning punters, must take shorter and fewer since punters will not have the extra time like in high school. Will needs to speed up the process, but he is very talented. He has an older brother that plays for Indiana. Will is very consistent from 45 yards in and averages 42 yards per punt.
