Mailbag question:

Guys,

Thank you for answering my question about the treatment of Coach Carr. He was always a class guy, but seemed to get very conservative in his later years and this hunkering down I think led to several losses in close games. If they had played all season with the scheme they used against Florida in the bowl game, I think Coach Carr would have retired on a different note. What do you guys think. Thank you for taking my questions.

Thanks for the question. Coach Carr has always been conservative coach. He was a bend but do not break DC. Preferred to play cover 2 in the secondary. He was not a huge fan of blitzing. He believed that if you did not give up big plays eventually the offense would self-destruct. The short and intermediate passing game took advantage of this type of scheme and Coach Carr and Michigan never quite adjusted to this new style of play. If I had to pick one area where Coach Carr and staff truly failed, it would be special teams. Michigan was always chasing others when it came to this vital area of the game. Special team play cost Michigan more games over the last few areas than anything else. As for how Michigan played game against Florida. Much of that had to with fact for first time in long time Michigan was 100% healthy. Every Offensive lineman played, and then much maligned Alex Mitchell played probably his best game in Michigan uniform. Henne was healthy for first time since ASU.
