U-M's Mesko a candidate for top punting honor

The Detroit News

Michigan junior punter Zoltan Mesko has been named to the watch list for the Ray Guy Award.

The award is presented annually to the nation's top college punter.

Mesko, of Twinsburg, Ohio, is averaging 44.1 yards this season, second in the Big Ten and 15th nationally. Seven of his 18 punts have been downed inside the opponent's 20-yard-line. Seven punts have traveled 50 yards or longer.

The watch list of 46 players will be reduced to 10 in November and the winner will be announced Dec. 11 during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN.
