Contain Daryll Clark
Sounds easy, doesn't it? Just stop one guy? But Daryll Clark is gifted, already is hearing his name popping up on Heisman Trophy candidate lists and is surrounded by terrific athletes. That E Brandon Graham (leg infection) returns after a one-game absence for the Wolverines is fortuitous. Stopping Clark won't be solely Graham's responsibility, but he has had the most success this season. He is tied for ninth nationally in sacks (five) and leads the nation in tackles for loss (10.5). Clark is different from Illinois QB Juice Williams but similar in the fact he does so many things well.
Attack with the run
Penn State has no apparent weaknesses, but what better way for Michigan to show its might than by establishing the run? But for a team that ranks 10th in the Big Ten, it seems impossible, not to mention the fact Penn State is first in rush defense. The offensive line, which has used four combinations but went with the same one the last two games, must play its best game. RB Sam McGuffie has impressed opponents and teammates alike, and will get the bulk of carries, but Brandon Minor and Michael Shaw need to step up.
