ANN ARBOR -- Michigan is in talks with Wisconsin to play an outdoor hockey game at Madison, Wis., in February 2010, U-M associate head coach Mel Pearson said.

Pearson, who handles the bulk of U-M's hockey scheduling, said the game would take place at 80,000-seat Camp Randall Stadium, where the Badgers play football.

"We've had preliminary discussions with them and our name has been mentioned with the game they plan to have there," Pearson said.

Michigan played Michigan State to a 3-3 tie in the "Cold War" game at Spartan Stadium on Oct. 6, 2001, before a crowd of 74,554.

Wisconsin also played an outdoor game, defeating Ohio State 4-2 before 40,890 fans at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on Feb. 11, 2006. The Badgers went on to win the national championship that season.

"We'll know more about it after December 1," Wisconsin coach Mike Eaves said. "We're seriously looking at Michigan. Sure, other schools like Minnesota have been tossed out there, but we really want Michigan.

"It was a great experience when we played at Lambeau Field. It was 22 degrees, a slight breeze and a full moon. I didn't wear gloves the whole night. I remember the next week it was 10 degrees below zero. That's the risk you take when you play here in (winter)."

Michigan coach Red Berenson likes the idea of another outdoor game for the Wolverines.

"We'd love to play them there," he said. "It would be great for college hockey."
