Penn State Preview:

Overall:
This game has the potential to be ugly for Michigan. Penn State’s strengths take advantage of Michigan’s weak areas. Playing at Penn State at 4:30 will not help the cause.

Offense:
It is amazing what good Quarterback play can do for a team. Daryll Clark stepping up and winning the quarterback battle has made a huge difference for PSU’s offense.

He is also the type of dual threat quarterback that gives Michigan fits. Throw in a veteran offensive line with five experienced starters, running back Evan Royster, who is averaging over 100 yards per game, and three very talented wide receivers lead by Derrick Williams, and you have the makings of an outstanding offense.

Defense:
Penn State’s defense suffered some key loses from last year, but has emerged as a very good unit. The strength of the defense is an outstanding defensive line that is capable of dominating a game. The linebacker corps misses Sean Lee, but is playing well without him. Secondary play has also been solid despite the loss of Justin King.

Special teams:
Both kickers return from last year. In addition, the return game, with the likes of A.J. Wallace and Derrick Williams, has been very good.
