ANN ARBOR – A Michigan running back possibly connected to the assault of another student early Sunday morning has been suspended from the football team.

Mike Milano, 22, of Rocky River, Ohio, a junior walk-on who has yet to play for the Wolverines this year, has been suspended indefinitely pending the results of a university police investigation. Wolverines spokesman Dave Ablauf confirmed the suspension Wednesday.

Authorities are looking into an assault that occurred about 2:25 a.m. Sunday – hours after UM lost 13-10 to Toledo. Diane Brown, a police spokesman, said the suspect was identified as a 22-year-old male from Ohio.

Brown declined to release the names of the assailant or victim, and said there have been no charges or arrests.

The victim is believed to be Steve Kampfer, a 20-year-old junior from Jackson, Mich., and a defenseman for the Wolverines' hockey team.
