Michigan hockey player may miss season after assault
by Art Aisner The Ann Arbor News
The hockey season may already be over for University of Michigan icer Stephen Kampfer, who suffered serious head and neck injuries during a weekend assault on Central Campus, the junior defensemen's mother said Wednesday.
U-M police said a 22-year-old student from Ohio is being investigated in the attack.
Kampfer, 20, is "recovering and resting as best as he can" at his family's Jackson home after suffering a skull and neck fracture early Sunday morning, Karyn Kampfer said.
Karyn Kampfer said her son is still adjusting to the collar that will restrict any neck mobility for six to 12 weeks, costing him part - if not all - of the season.
"The dust hasn't settled on the injury yet, so we don't know how much time will be needed. He's extremely upset," Kampfer said.
