Mailbag question: Any news on Freshmen numbers?

Do you know what the freshmans' numbers are? They're normally issued by now. Also, any other info on players' numbers?

Thanks,

Dave

Thanks for the question.

Yes, but first, here's some news coming out of the media pre-spring press conference on Tuesday.

As mentioned here previously, Michael Shaw (sports hernia) and Jonas Mouton (shoulder) will miss spring practice because of off-season surgeries.

Steve Watson switches from tight end to defensive end, but could go back to tight end if needed. He is needed more on the defensive side of the ball right now. Vince Helmuth moved to defensive tackle from fullback, a move he started last year.

They are waiting word on medical hardships for Kenny Demens and Adam Patterson. Both players competed in one game before their seasons ended due to injury.

Junior Hemingway received a medical hardship for the last season when he missed most of the season with mononucleosis. Hemingway will be a junior academically, but a sophomore with respect to football eligibility.

The numbers:
There are seven true freshmen that enrolled in January. Their numbers are: Vincent Smith (#2), Tate Forcier (#5), Vladimir Emilien (#5), Brandin Hawthorne (#7), Mike Jones (#27), William Campbell (#73), and Anthony LaLota (#90).

Heading into spring, there are also players who have switched numbers: David Cone (#12 to #16), Roy Roundtree (#16 to #12), George Morales (#73 to #66) and Jon Conover (#89 to #83).

Its good to see Brandin Hawthorne get #7 because he is an linebacker and i like linebackers to have small numbers. Its fun that they have diffferent numbers too. Like Victor "Charlie" Hobson and Jonas "Brother" Mouton (those are nicknames I made, lol). These where/our great linebackers and i look forward to seeing Brandin storm the field with know remorse!

Thanks for answering the questions so throughrerly.

Can two #5's play on the same team?

Yes two players can have the same number on the team, but they both cannot be on the field at the same time. Most programs have to do this because of the amount of kids on the roster. Usually it does not happen that two guys from the same recruiting class will wear the same number.

Back when we played Washington at home there was actually three players that wore the #1 jersey when R. Williams was there. Williams, a defensive guy and they also had another guy that played special teams.

Just think back in Bo's day when he use to have 125 kids on the roster.

Can you imagine having 125 kids/atheletes on the field at one (1) time? Bo and his coaches mustveb een really tuff to be able to keep all them boys and mens inline. Some coach cant even keep kids out of the jails, but Bo knows football. He keep kids in school and on field of glory. Then he say those who stay and crowd goes wild.

I like little numbers as I sed befour, they make me think like hard about there position on the field. #2 should be a cornerback winning the Highsman, but he mite be a runningback or linebacker or a cornerback. You just have to figure it out. Figure it out was a show on NickleOdeon. My little boy watches it on NICKGAS when hesnot watching BTN. He's a good boy.

Im just glad to see that RR didnt hand #1 out like he promised last year. I was all for RR and still am but when I saw him give away the #1 i started to doubt RR because it was tradition to give it to a WR like Edwards said in his will for the scholarship to the school. So I thought to myself "does RR understand about tradtion at UM?" and i really was questioning the hire. But he turned it around and it looks like he learned his leson that Michigan football is about tradition, which is what Bo and Mo and Lloyd were all about and thats why players come to play for Michigan. So they can be MICHIGAN MEN! its like RR said we only want players who want to play for michigan because those are the ones that stay and be CHAMPTIONS!

Teh number 1 is very special, as in, special to those who where it and those who love MICHIGAN. I hope who ever gets the next number 1 is a special player with grate abilities to go and catch the ball and run with it too. If he isnot special then RR should be held acounteble for his decisions. But I wont worry i think hes a special dude too. GO BLUE I SAY!

Beeny, I just wanted to say that Im glad you accepted my apollogy in the last thread. Sometimes Michigan fans can dsiagree but as long as we can cume together in the ends and just be Michigan Men together, its all cool cause I think that's what reel Michigan Men do.

In any case, I'm SUPER excited that Gardner could be anouncing on Monday! Im just mad cause I saw that Rivals came out with their 100 players and he wasnt even on there! Typcial michigan bias. They just cant deal with Michigan being THE BEST! Erocwolverine, should we be worried that RR isn't going after any of these top 100 players? Texas already has THREE!

Jenny, I preyed for youre brother. I hope he's doing well and Im guessing he's a big Michigan fan. He sounds like the kind of guy Bo or Mo or Lloyd would of wanted on their teams, a real MICHIGAN MAN.
