Coaches Corner: Ranking the Quarterbacks -- Part 1

Based on film and seeing Forcier in person thought it would be fun to compare and get some dialogue going. We will be discussing Tate Forcier, Denard Robinson, Devin Gardner , and Cornelius Jones. We have excluded David Cone and Nick Sheridan in this comparisons.

Using following criteria, arm strength, speed, intangibles, mechanics, accuracy, and elusiveness. These are strictly opinions based completely on film and what we witnessed.

Arm Strength:

1) D. Gardner: Kid has excellent arm, shown on film throwing ball over 50 yards in air. Because of his impressive size, with improved mechanics and tighter spiral it will keep improving in our opinion.

2) C. Jones: This was close. Jones has very good arm strength in his own right and is also a big strong kid. That will only help his improvement. His spiral on film was excellent. And as with Gardner it will get better with improved mechanics

3) T. Forcier: Solid arm strength more than enough to be successful in this offense, and better than we thought watching his high school film. Nowhere near as big or strong as top two, but arm strength will improve as size and strength does. And there is plenty of room for that.

4) D. Robinson: No disrespect, D. Robinson has better arm than many want to believe. And has more than enough to be very successful in this offense.

Speed:

1) D. Robinson: This kid has scary speed. Not only straight line, but also explosion and burst. He is type of fast twitch kid Coach Rod and staff love, more on that later!

2) C. Jones: This was close between Jones and Gardner. Just thought Jones showed a touch more speed than Gardner. This is type of kid we always wanted old Michigan to recruit. Very good arm and ability to be a drop back thrower, but great athlete with feet to keep offense honest.

3) D. Gardner: Moves very well for kid his size. another of the type of quarterbacks we really like. Just not quite the quickness of Jones in our opinion.

4) T. Forcier: More than enough speed to be effective. Just not on par with top three.

Accuracy:

1) T. Forcier: Very accurate in high school and has done nothing but improve since arriving. As game slows down and he gets completely assimilated to offense this will get even better.

2) D. Robinson: Next three were very close, just was very impressed with D. Robinson ability to lead receivers and his patience. Many runners tuck and flee at drop of hat, not D. Robinson.

3) C. Jones and D. Gardner: Going to take easy way out and call this a draw. Both have some mechanical issues and such that effect accuracy.

Part 2 will discuss elusiveness, mechanics, intangibles, rating the quarterbacks and overall.

I believe it's Nard Dogg. Not Denard Robinson.
