Mailbag question: Obi Ezeh

Obi Ezeh, did you see the whiff on the goal line where he completely blew the tackle and missed when the running back scored?

Mike Williams killed us on defense on so many plays I cannot count. How can we not recruit safeties better?

We need safeties and linebacker big-time on defense. We need to recruit better.

Will Campbell seems to be lost out there or at least that is what I saw. Now I see why you guys have said he needed a lot of work.

We agree, recruiting defense, especially that of top defensive talent, needs to be a top priority, perhaps the program’s biggest.

We have been preaching this unfortunate circumstance for almost two years about defensive recruiting.

As GBMW insider has been saying for sometime, to get out of this problem UM has to recruit, recruit, and recruit some more.

As GBMW insider stated this spring, he was shocked at the depth of defense that was practicing at a major program like Michigan.

The only other thing we would add to your question and comment is that we think Michigan needs help everywhere on defense, just not linebacker, and safety. Think of this team without B. Graham and that is essentially next year’s defense.

We are worried about recruiting and what we have been hearing as well with how recruiting has been going lately. Also, take note while it is indeed early, several very highly rated 2011 recruits that have Michigan offers (at several positions of need) have told us they have not heard from the Michigan coaches. Yes, we have heard from other sites that the rules dictate that coaches are only allowed one call in a time period, no matter if the recruit picks up the phone or not. By the way, ND is ready to swoop in while someone sleeps at the wheel.

We have asked these kids that very question (regarding UM contact) and they have told us that they have cell phones that have voice mail and they would contact the coaches if the coaches called them, but they have not! Go figure!!!
