Mailbag question: Going into Spring practices

GBMW,

I was wondering what you think the depth chart will look like next year more importantly where Denard, Ezeh, and Vicent Smith will be.

Thank you and Go Blue,

Evan V.

-----------------------------------

Thanks for the question. Going into spring this is our list at these positions. Of course, some will debate or dispute, but at this time of year we can only go off what we have seen during practices along with what we have seen on Saturday's.

Offense:

Split End -- Darryl Stonum

Tight End -- Kevin Koger / Martell Webb
Left Tackle -- Patrick Omameh
Left Guard -- Stephen Schilling
Offensive Center -- David Molk (if healthy) / Rocko Khoury
Right Guard -- Mark Huyge / Ricky Barnum
Right Tackle -- Perry Dorrestein / Mark Huyge

Slot Receiver -- Martavious Odoms / Roy Roundtree

Split End -- Junior Hemingway

Quarterback -- Tate Forcier / Denard Robinson
Fullback -- Mark Moundros
Running Back -- Michael Shaw / Vincent Smith if both healthy.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Defense:

Defensive End -- Craig Roh
Nose Tackle -- Mike Martin
Defensive End -- Ryan Van Bergen

Strong side Linebacker -- Brandin Hawthorne / Mike Jones
Inside Linebacker -- Obi Ezeh / J.B. Fitzgerald
Inside Linebacker -- Jonas Mouton / Kenny Demens
Quick Linebacker -- Brandon Herron

Cornerback -- Donovan Warren (if he stays of course) / J.T. Floyd
Strong Safety -- Vlad Emilien / Michael Williams
Free Safety -- Troy Woolfolk / Jordan Kovacs
Cornerback -- J.T. Turner / Troy Woolfolk

The defensive backfield might depend on what Donovan Warren does going into spring practices on who and what position certain players will be tried at first.

That depth chart scares me. It's so similar to last yr...hoepfully another year in the system allows these guys to improve their play

Coach and Eroc,

Nice list guys and agree that some of the depth chart with some of those names scares me, but hopefully in the spring time you guys see something and will report on it to us that these young players are getting it and will be ready to play.

Remember our depth chart is based on returning players and does not include any incoming freshmen. With VSmith out for spring it is possible one of the incoming freshmen gets some reps this spring. It is also possible that one of the incoming freshmen DBs makes the two deep. We did not iclude theem because at this point it is all still rumors as to which ones take part in spring ball. And until they suit up no one is 100% syre how they will assimulate to college football.

We are counting on a lot of players that have limited or no playing time on defense in the two deep.

Thanks guys.
