Mailbag question: Offensive Line recruiting

GBMW,

Great blog keep it up!!!!!

As much as Coach Rod likes to run the ball, why doesn't he recruit more linemen? You would think with the way he runs the ball he would be real popular with high school linemen.

Thanks for the question and the comments.

We would have certainly liked for Michigan to add a couple of more offensive linemen in this class.

We do not like to see classes with this few offensive linemen. We prefer to bring three or four in per year rather, than one or two one season and then a large class of six or seven.

In our opinion, it is difficult to assimilate that large a number of offensive linemen. Michigan does not have a huge need for a large number of offensive linemen, the 2008 class had a big number and 2009 class had three.

So from a depth standpoint all is well. It is the balance that concerns us. Remember, sooner or later the recruiting numbers will catch up to Michigan and the program will have a small class. As of right now, with so many players the past couple of years leaving, it has left Michigan below scholarship numbers and as a result coaches have been able to recruit a full class the past three years in a row, which includes the 2010 class.
