Antonio Kinard: 2010 Michigan Wolverine -- Defensive End / Outside Linebacker -- Signing Day Recap

Posted at 4:00pm -- 2/8/2010

Antonio Kinard: 2010 Michigan Wolverine

Height: 6'4
Weight: 210
Position: Outside Linebacker / Defensive End
High School: Youngstown Liberty Leopards (Ohio)
Head Coach: Jeff Whittaker
Recruiter: Coach Tony Gibson
Class: 2010 Michigan Wolverine Recruiting Class (Signed)

Overview:
He is a tall rangy athlete who played inside linebacker in high school. He could easily grow into a defensive end, or play the hybrid in Coach Robinson's defense. If playing defense does not work out, Antonio could also play Max back on offense.

Strengths:
Antonio runs very well for a player his size and has an excellent quick burst and closing speed. He is a sound and physical tackler.

Needs work:
He loses leverage at times. He must learn to keep his knees bent. His feet have a tendency to stop moving.

Antonio reminds us this former Michigan Wolverine:
Larry Stevens.

Red-shirt or play his freshman year:
Likely Red-shirt.

Where do they rank him:
ESPN: 3-Star .. #62 at position.
Rivals: 3-Star .. #N/A at position.
Scout: 3-Star .. #94 at position.

Final Thoughts:
Antonio shows good lateral mobility, which helps in going sideline to sideline. Of course he needs to add weight to be effective at the college level, but his instincts and burst are major pluses. He seems to take very good pursuit angles and seems like he does well at getting off the ball.
