U-M's Grady hungry for successful season
by David Mayo The Grand Rapids Press
ANN ARBOR -- The glibness remains, but Kelvin Grady's youthful grin does not flash quite as often. The dancing eyes have given way to a harder, pensive stare.
The freshman is gone.
A year of uneven playing time did it, in and out of the starting lineup, uncertain about his position in the rotation and his adaptability to coach John Beilein's system.
A year of reality did it, when the once-great Michigan basketball program completed a decade as an NCAA tournament outsider, all while a youthful team discovered the fierce degree of difficulty involved in a college season.
For Grady, the Wolverines sophomore guard from East Grand Rapids, all that has gone wrong is a 10-22 record as a freshman, when he started 25 games despite a tepid grasp of relationships between college players and their coaches and a six-week shooting slump at the beginning of the Big Ten season.
The years of failure do not belong to him.
But he owns them.
