Mailbag question: Roy Roundtree

Mailbag question: Roy Roundtree

GBMW,

Roy Roundtree?

Where has he been?

It seemed like we went to him in the first half, but not as much in the second half. Was there something that Purdue was doing for us not to go back to him?

He seems like he has played well since given an opportunity to contribute lately.

Thanks for the question.

We were surprised Roundtree did not get more playing time early in the season. We believe it has to do with his lack of speed that Coach Rod wants from his slot receivers. Roundtree did not really get an extended opportunity until others failed to catch/hold onto the ball, along with M. Odoms getting injured.

In our opinion he has the best hands on the team. He does not look fancy, he does give the wow effect, but he does run decent patterns with pretty good smarts and cuts. He is one of those guys who are just efficient and productive.

In the second half the entire offense struggled, Minor was not the force he had been in the first half.

In this offense if the team cannot run the football well and stay out of 1st and 12 or 3rd and 10 situations there will be a greater difficulty passing it to move the chains.

The running game 100% sets up the passing game.

Also, Purdue pulled the safeties up and reduced the amount of space Michigan had to operate; essentially saying beat us deep if you can.
